EAEU and China work on digitalization of rail freight transportation

The EAEU and China discussed the program for digitalization of freight transportation and expansion of the Eurasian Agroexpress project. This was reported by the press service of the EEC.

A meeting was held between the Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrey Slepnev and the Director General of the state-owned company China Railways Guo Zhuxie. “The implementation of the roadmap for the development of trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and China in terms of digitalization of freight rail transportation was discussed,” the report says.

It was noted that the relevant measures are being implemented according to the stipulated deadlines. In particular, the parties have achieved a high level of quality and completeness of data in the electronic exchange of information between rail carriers. “Agreements between railway companies are at a high level of readiness, which will allow us to reach a new level of cooperation. We are also considering new promising areas of interaction,” Slepnev noted.

In addition, the parties discussed in detail the issues of access of high-quality agricultural products of the EAEU member states to the PRC market, as well as the possibility of expanding logistics routes within the framework of the Eurasian Agroexpress project. The initiative to implement the joint EAEU project for the implementation of accelerated rail and multimodal transportation “Eurasian Agroexpress” was supported by the order of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council dated February 25, 2022. The total volume of transportation by the Eurasian Agroexpress in 2023 exceeded 450 thousand tons. The key nomenclature of the cargo base was oil and fat, fruit and vegetable and canned goods, legumes, as well as chicken and beef.

The main direction of transportation under the project is currently China.
